sMAE: An Improved Block Matching Criterion

چکیده
In this paper a new variation of the well known MAE (Mean Absolute Error) matching criterion for video coding applications, is introduced. The MAE criterion is simpler than the MSE criterion because of the lack of multiplication operations, but it achieves a lower performance in terms of PSNR and MSE. In this work we impose an additional statistical constraint over the MAE thus filling the performance gap between the original MAE and MSE criteria. This is accomplished by multiplying the MAE by the deviation of the mean value of the differences. Simulation results show that the proposed criterion performs always better than the MAE, at the expense of an increased computational complexity.

Article history: Received: 11.03.2013. Received in revised form: 02.04.2013. Accepted: 02.04.2013. This paper puts forward an innovative criterion in the cellar automata (CA) technique for both matching zone similarity and mapping failure pattern of masonry wall panel. The criterion proposed in this paper is a two-step matching method. Firstly, calculate the state values of the cells in the bas...
متن کاملVideo coding based on true motion estimation
In this paper, a new approach for MC-DCT (motion compensated – Discrete Cosine Transform) hybrid video coding based on true motion estimation is proposed. The true motion estimation technique employs the leastmedian-squares (LMedS) matching criterion in block matching process for motion estimation. The rationale for using such true motion estimator is that at low bit-rates, very few bits are av...
متن کاملTwo Level Block Matching Criterion for Motion Estimation Using Integral Frames Features
In block based motion estimation algorithms, computation is reduced by limiting the number of candidate search points within the search window or simplifying the distortion measurement criterion for block matching. Integral frame based block motion estimation algorithms have been suggested in literature which drastically reduce computation cost. However, these algorithms have a serious drawback...
متن کاملA New Statistically Adaptive Block-Matching Criterion for Motion Estimation
In this paper, we address the issue of motion estimation in real video sequences. While the conventional block-matching criteria for motion estimation is based on the assumption that the average values of the target block and reference blocks are identical. This causes performance degradation for motion estimation because average values are time-varying in real video sequences. In order to alle...
